This paper studied the effects of Panax notoginseng roots, leaves, flower buds, and notoginseng C_1 and E_1 on the hemodynamics of anesthetized dogs. The results showed that total root caries significantly reduced arterial blood pressure and total peripheral resistance, increased cardiac output and slowed heart rate, and reduced myocardial oxygen consumption index. The highest content of total monomeric saponin C_1 (ie, ginsenoside Rg_1) caused a short-term decrease in blood pressure, but the LV dp/dt_(max) and cardiac output increased significantly with a decrease in total peripheral resistance. The total amount of saponin E_1 (ie, ginsenoside Rb_1) and its total content had no significant effect on the above indicators. The role of the flower bud is gentle and short-lived. These results suggest that Panax notoginseng saponins is an active component of cardiovascular pharmacology. The above ground saponins have no obvious cardiovascular effects and are more toxic.
