初中生好奇心强,喜欢探索自然的奥妙,兴趣广泛、强烈,但缺乏深度和稳定性。如果在教学中不失时机地进行实验就可以激发学生的好奇心,培养探索自然的兴趣和献身科学的精神。初中生的思维正处于由具体形象思维向抽象逻辑思维过渡的阶段,其中形象思维仍起重要作用,抽象思维正在发展。在很大程度上,他们仍习惯于靠经验材料判断分析事物,不善于从理论上进行推导。这就要求教师必须给学生提供足够的感性材料和活动机会,加强演示实验。
