近年来,台湾许多出版社纷纷译介西方科学普及读物新书,在近年推出的科普读物中,如《细胞转型》、《垃圾之歌》、《性的历史》等一些还成为受大众关注的热点好书。科普读物虽然挤上书市,但与其他畅销书相比,读者面并不普及,显得曲高和寡。一些译自西方的科普著作,其原著并非科学普及读物,未免艰涩难懂。台湾出版界人士认为,今后的发展方向可以朝科学经典名著和科学史、科学技术史、科技思想史类书的大量引介、诠译方面发展。
