在萧瑟秋风中,人们常常赞美的是凌寒不凋的秋菊,颂扬它“凌霜留晚节”的品质。其实,真正称得上凌寒拒霜,独殿众芳的,应该是芙蓉。宋朝大文学家苏轼吟;“千林扫作一番黄,只有芙蓉独自芳;唤作拒霜知未称,看来却是最宜霜。”宋孝宗也称颂木芙蓉道:“托根不与菊为奴,历尽风霜未肯降。”又有“谁怜冷落清秋后,能把柔姿独拒霜。”他们对芙蓉傲寒拒霜的高洁品质,作出了比菊花更高的评价,故芙蓉又名“拒霜”。“溪边野芙蓉,花水相媚好。”“聊把一枝闲照水,明年何处对霜红。”
