In late 2009, Alashan SEE Ecology Association (hereinafter SEE) held a general election. Among the local environmental NGOs that are generally short of money and lack registration, the SEE, organized by more than 100 entrepreneurs from the Mainland and Hong Kong and Taiwan, has the most abundant funds and the largest number of full-time staff. Although only 5 years of history, it has quickly risen to become China’s largest non-governmental environmental NGO. SEE mainly focuses on three aspects. One is to promote the desertification prevention and control in the Alxa League in Inner Mongolia by using the project of community development. The other is to promote the development of grassroots environmental NGOs in China through subsidies, rewards and trainings. The third is to promote Chinese entrepreneurs to take on more society And ecological responsibility. In just five years, it is not realistic to measure how much SEE can bring to the environment from a quantifiable point of view. However, the social impact of the formation of this organization, especially the efforts of the NGO itself in its standardization and transparency, are obvious to all. Entrepreneurs are demanding themselves to the highest standards in the NGO industry, learning how to get involved in public affairs in a democratic and equitable manner at SEE. They learn to spend money in “self-tossing,” recovering moral self-confidence in public affairs and affecting their own businesses. On the same day as SEE, the magazine exclusively visited Wang Shi, the outgoing president and chairman of Vanke’s board of directors.
