跨世纪的高等教育基础工程——“211工程”,最近经国务院批准开始实施。“211工程”的主要任务是:经过10年或更长一段时间(预期在2010年前)的努力,重点建设100所左右的高等学校和一批重点学科。力争在21世纪,我国高等教育总体水平有一个明显提高,在教育质量、科研水平和学校管理等方面能与国际著名大学并驾间齐驱。根据“211工程”的建设目标,国家首先鼓励有条件的国务院部委(总公司)和省(自治区、直辖市)歧府,按照列入“211工程”重点建设的高等学校和重点学科的条件,集中

Cross-century higher education foundation project - “211 Project”, recently approved by the State Council began. The main task of “211 Project” is to focus on building about 100 colleges and universities and a number of key disciplines after 10 or more years (expected by 2010). In the 21st century, we will strive to achieve a marked improvement in the overall level of our higher education and work in harmony with internationally renowned universities in areas such as education quality, scientific research and school administration. According to the construction goal of “211 Project”, the state first encourages qualified ministries and commissions (head offices) of the State Council and provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) in accordance with the conditions of universities and key disciplines included in the “211 Project”
