The internet age has a popular saying that technology is growing at an unprecedented rate. We continue to see new companies bringing new technologies, new services and new Web sites. But what exactly is a real technological breakthrough? This is exactly why we are honoring the annual Technical Excellence Award. We look for new technologies, new concepts and important developments in our existing products. From time to time, we find new ways of doing business and how we work; sometimes we find ways to refine existing tools. In order to rate these awards, our editors, senior lab members, and senior contributors spent weeks discussing new products for the year. We selected 33 finalists out of the thousands of products received by September 30, and finally won the winning products. Some products represent tremendous advances in network connected devices - you can connect LANs, intranets and Web sites anywhere; some adopt new Internet technologies to enable new applications and enrich our lives; Some increase the speed of the PC; others create a new design.
