宋代是广州城市建设史上的重要时期,拓展城池,修筑墙垣,其次数之多与规模之大,均远超前代,奠定了后世广州城的基本格局。广州是南方重镇,负山带海,人口众多,商贸发达,向为国家财赋所倚重者,故于其城坊经营建设颇为重视。关于宋代广州城建之文献资料相对较多,考古发掘成果亦复不少,广州博物馆藏有考古所得广州修城铭文砖数种,是研究宋代广州城建之珍贵实物,兹试考略,以资参鉴。
