2014年,丹麦BIG建筑事务所受邀为瑞典乌普萨拉市设计一个生物能源的热电站,以在冬天期间补充该地区现有的能源基础设施。因为只是季节性的使用,所以这个新电站将会在夏季出现几个月的空置,这段时间可以让BIG在视觉和功能上为这个电站带来一个全新的公众形象。在设计方案中,BIG提出将乌普萨拉电厂的热电站和温室两个工业建筑类型进行非传统的融合,通过控制与温室相关的建筑规模成本,创造出一个有光照和透明特质的外壳。因此,结晶体外观像是丰富多彩的邀请,引导着人们来探索和了解这个建筑。
In 2014, BIG Architects Denmark was invited to design a bioenergy thermal power station for the city of Uppsala, Sweden, to supplement the existing energy infrastructure in the area during the winter months. Because of seasonal use, the new station will be vacant for several months in the summer, allowing BIG to visually and functionally bring a brand new public image to the station. In the design proposal, BIG proposed a non-traditional fusion of two industrial building types at the Uppsala Power Plant and the Greenhouse, by creating a shinier and transparent enclosure by controlling the cost of the construction associated with the greenhouse. Therefore, the crystal appearance is a colorful invitation to guide people to explore and understand this building.
