Edward Albee is widely recognized as the most important American playwright following Eugene O’Neill, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller. Throughout his works, he runs through the philosophical thinking of death. For Orbi, dealing with death is nothing more than dealing with the survival crisis of the living person. Only by taking “value of life ” as the center can we transcend the body of life corroded and ruined by “meaninglessness ” and get spiritual regeneration . This article attempts to reinterpret the “story of a zoo” with the mythological prototype theory. By examining the life course of characters in the works, I grasp the theme of the essence of life, death and regeneration.
