1998年,青海石油管理局对柴达木盆地台吉乃尔构造重新评价后,确定其控制天然气储量为310亿m~3,这是继涩北、台南气田之后,在盆地内发现的又一大型气田.据青海石油管理局研究院负责人介绍,台吉乃尔构造位于柴达木盆地东部,构造面积210km~2.这一构造在1975年被发现后,通过试钻并未发现天然气显示.1998年,油田科技人员在重新研究的基础上,对台吉乃尔构造进行试验性勘探,先后在6口井获工业气流.经测算,这一构造含气面积达61km~2,汽层平均有效厚度为42.2m.
