刀郎是什么?刀郎是塔克拉玛干西端沙漠边缘麦盖提一带古维吾尔族族群聚落的一个特殊称谓。理解刀郎乐舞就要走进刀郎人的生活中去,离开特定的环境,感染力就会减弱,这也包括舞台上表演的刀郎乐舞。因为在麦盖提叶尔羌河畔、胡杨林间、村舍场地即是生活中的舞台,而这也正是刀郎为民间活化艺术的基本特征。两条河流入麦盖提,一条叶尔羌河,另一条提孜那甫河。从地形上看麦盖提像一架卡龙琴,这两条河就如同是两支主弦,河水流过的地方激荡起的琴音就是麦盖提的全部。而居住在麦盖提的刀郎人就像琴弦发出的一个个音符,在这片土地上演绎着生命的旋律。麦盖提,虽然不是理想的生活环境,但却是音乐的天堂。
