Guusi, chairman of the International Oil Companies Federation, said recently that major oil companies are planning to work together to establish safety inspection rules for oil tankers to prevent oil tankers from polluting ports and terminals. Gulistan said that after the enactment of the relevant rules, tankers will be able to know more clearly the steps that they should take to enable oil tankers to get a more correct handling of vessels during inspections. He said that the relevant rules could save vessel inspection time and avoid unnecessary duplication of inspections and improve the effectiveness of inspections, which would benefit the shipping companies. The International Federation of Oil Companies (IOC) was established in 1970 as one of the consultants to the International Maritime Organization. It mainly helps to formulate maritime safety rules and regulations concerning oil tankers.
