本书是1939年开始编印牛顿全集计划的第一个果实。吞布尔教授的编纂工作很谨慎,同时包括的方面也很广。这本书不但使我们对牛顿本人增加许多了解,而且由于牛顿的通信者里面有不少在当时是有名人物,在科学史上也是不容忽视的一章。本书的编纂计划是将已有的牛顿书信,以及已有的别人写给牛顿的书信,全部印了出来;另外还从当时别人提到牛顿的信札里作些摘录;还包括一些谈论牛顿生平的短文和过去未曾发表过的牛顿手
This book is the first fruit of Newton’s Complete Works plan since 1939. Professor Theuberg’s codification is very cautious and covers a wide range of aspects. This book not only gives us a lot more understanding of Newton himself, but also because many of Newton’s communicators have celebrities who were famous at that time and in the history of science they should not be overlooked. The compilation of this book is to print out all the existing Newton letters, as well as the existing letters written by Newton to others, as well as excerpts from the reference to Newton’s letter at the time, and also some articles on Newton’s life Essay and Newton’s hand that had never been published before
