安岳县为连接川东、川西、重庆、成都的战略要地。康熙《安岳县志》为安岳县目前保存完整的最早方志,成于清初安岳县草创时期,资料图书匮乏,搜集不易,成书后历经四任县令始得刊刻,历经艰难,体例奇特,传世本甚少,且最大程度保存了明代所修《安岳县志》残本,具有资料原始性和珍稀性的特点。乾隆《安岳县志》接康熙志而修,具有体例完备、资料丰富、考订精审等特点,也较为稀见。两志在现存明清方志中较有代表性,今人论述多有不准确之处,需要纠正。
