The Geological Society of London published the book Geology of England and Wales in 1992, the first of its kind in 63 years. In the same year, the Society also published the third edition of Scottish Geology. These two books have aroused strong repercussions in the geology community, making us think 1992 was extraordinary in the case of earth science books. These two books reflect the traditional notion of geology, which catalogs rock by age, describes sedimentary rocks in sequence, and gradually establishes the history of rock deposition under different headings for igneous, volcanic and its Causes, economic resources, earth structure and sedimentary geology, and people who have read geology introductory and geological survey special reports are all familiar with this layout. However, can such books truly represent the modern earth sciences, and can they provide guidance and help to students traveling in the pathways leading to scientists?
