More than 30 years have passed since the unique properties of zirconium tungstate have been observed by researchers at Pennsylvania State University. This material has a negative coefficient of thermal expansion (ie, it expands in cooling rather than heat) and is the same in all directions. This material also has the largest known negative linear expansion coefficient over a wide temperature range: from near absolute zero to 150C at -1 x 10-5 / C.
