喷施2、4滴丙酸可使苹果果实提前成熟,但其效果因处理时期及浓度的不同而各异。一般在盛花6～8周以后处理,处理时期早,且采用高浓度,会更加促使提前成熟。早期采用高浓度理处的话,反而会抑制果实的增大。在盛花4周后处理过的,未发现促使提前成熟,却导致新梢顶端发生药害。对果实增大的影响认为是在盛花10～12周后,用45ppm 的量喷施1次或2次较适宜,可提前2～3周成熟,着色也良好。
