Colchicine (1) (Figure 1), the major alkaloid isolated from Colchicum autumnale in 1820, is a potent drug that interferes with microtubules both in vitro and in vivo, thereby causing cells to accumulate in apparent mitotic arrest during the cell cycle. Co
