A study published online Aug. 6 in the Journal of Internal Medicine shows that the long-term use of certain photosensitive antihypertensive drugs (such as hydrochlorothiazide and nifedipine) by non-Hispanic whites can increase the risk of lip cancer [1]. This is a retrospective review of the prescriptions conducted by American scholars between August 1, 1994 and February 29, 2008, and included 23 616 non-Hispanic white hypertensive patients using antihypertensive drugs for more than 2 years. Antihypertensive drugs include four categories: hydrochlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide triamterene compound preparation; angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor lisinopril; calcium channel blocker nifedipine; β-adrenergic receptor blocker atii Luo Seoul, the only non-light-sensitive drug included in the study.
