Objective To study an ideal experimental model of cervical spinal cord chronic compression. Methods A self-made flexible plastic double-cannula catheter was implanted into the middle of the upper edge of the vertebrae of the dog’s neck 5 through the anterior cervical approach. Chronic compression of the cervical spinal cord was generated through the slow pushing of the inner cannula. Results Postoperative behavioral, imaging, electrophysiological and histological observation of dogs with cervical spinal cord injury consistent with the characteristics of pathological changes of cervical spinal cord chronic compression. Conclusion It is a simple, ideal and reliable experimental method for chronic compression of cervical and spinal cord caused by double cannula.
