2011 is the International Year of Chemistry, one of the reasons is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911. It is very coincidental that in this International Year of Chemistry, two women scholars in our country have won international awards in two different fields respectively. One is Ms. Zhang Lina from Wuhan University who won the 2011 Anselm Payne Award from the United States in recognition of her outstanding contribution in the fields of cellulose and renewable resources (see July-August 2012 issue). Another is the Lasker Clinical Medicine Award set by the United States by Tu Yo Yo, a researcher at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Tu Yo Yo won the award because of the first artemisinin extracted from the Chinese medicine artemisinin, and confirmed that 100% kill malaria parasite efficacy. Artemisinin is a major discovery in the history of medical development and is a result of our scientists in the world of medicine
