Objective: To investigate the relationship between late vitamin K deficiency and intracranial hemorrhage caused by hypocalcemia. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 41 cases, aged 1 to 3 months; 26 males and 15 females; breast-feeding in 37 cases, 4 were mixed feeding. None of the 41 patients had a history of trauma and a family history of hemorrhagic disease. Results: All the 41 cases confirmed that both intracranial hemorrhage and serum calcium decreased, and prothrombin time were prolonged. Conclusion: Vitamin K deficiency combined with low serum calcium more easily lead to spontaneous bleeding, so for breastfeeding, calcium deficiency convulsions in infants should be routinely given vitamin K prophylaxis and positive calcium treatment to prevent induced intracranial hemorrhage.
