OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk of tumor spread in recipients of tumors after renal transplantation of the central nervous system (CNS) and to propose utilization strategies. Methods: The clinical and follow-up data of 18 CNS tumor donors and 36 renal transplant recipients receiving their donor kidney were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Thirty-six CNS tumors were successfully transplanted for kidney transplantation, with an average follow-up of 20 months. There was no case of donor tumors being transplanted to recipients by renal transplantation. CONCLUSIONS: Although CNS tumor-bearing nephropathy transplantation faces the potential risk of tumors being transmitted to recipients by organ transplantation, the risk is extremely low and generally safe.
