Gellison corrected the ignorance of scientific instruments in the history of science and philosophy of science. In contrast to Kuhn’s idea and concept-driven scientific revolution, Gellissen’s history of scientific instrumentation highlights instrumental and instrumental scientific revolutions. By critiquing Kuhn and Pickering’s position on instrumentation in the model of scientific development, Gellison’s philosophy of scientific instrumentation clarified the equally important philosophical position of instrumentation and theory and experimentation. Gellisen’s history of scientific instruments and the philosophy of scientific instruments created a new situation in the history of instrumentation for the history of science and philosophy of science.
