I. INTRODUCTION At present, helical gears are also widely machined by finger milling in heavy machinery manufacturing plants. Gear tooth shape is not only determined by the tooth profile accuracy, but also depends on the cutting depth of the tool. The general factory in processing often overlooked the depth of the control, can not get the correct tooth shape, affecting the gear contact accuracy and service life. In this paper, the theory of involute helical surface formed by plane envelope method is introduced. The basic principle of machining involute helical surface in single-tooth indexing by plane cutter on general gear hobbing machine is discussed.
