笔墨作为中国书画艺术的语言形式,有着悠久的历史。笔墨相依而生,笔是通过墨而迹化彰显出来的,墨是依赖笔而付诸生命和活力的。技巧的得来是练能获技,熟能生巧。中国书画强调有笔有墨,两者相辅相成,不可偏废,情至深处,笔亦是墨,墨亦是笔。要运用好笔墨,须有一个不断修炼的漫长过程,就习画者来说,在探索笔墨的同时,还要多读书,如四书五经,诸子百家等,提高自身的文化道德修养,以使驾笔驭墨既无手障也无心碍,达到得心应手,笔随心动,意随笔生,形随笔现,神随迹化之浑然天成的自由境界。
