“海西”是海峡西岸经济区的简称,是指台湾海峡西岸以福建省为主体及周边地区,南北与珠三角、长三角两个经济区衔接,东与台湾岛,西与江西省的广大内陆腹地贯通的地域经济综合体。这个概念最早在2004年1月初召开的福建省十届人大二次会议上首次被完整、公开地提出。
