汤桂芬,江苏扬州人,1918年出生于沪西纱厂工人家庭,第二代上海苏北人。其父汤志忠20世纪20年代在日商内外棉四厂做打包工时,受厂内同乡中共党员影响,参加过上海工人武装纠察队。汤桂芬9岁时因家贫辍学,先后在内外棉五厂、十四厂、统益纱厂、永安三厂、大康纱厂、同兴军服厂做工。她1940年在沪西统益纱厂布机间当验布工时,进入基督教女青年会女工夜校读书,其级任老师和任课老师皆是中共党员,在思想上、学习和生活上给予她很多关怀和帮助,她的思想认识水平和各项能力得到很大提升。
Tang Guifen, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, was born in 1918 in Shanghai Xisi mill workers family, the second generation of Shanghai in northern Jiangsu. His father, Tang Zhizhong, worked as a packer in the 1920s at both domestic and foreign cotton factories, and was influenced by Chinese Communist Party members in the factory and took part in the armed forces picket squad of Shanghai Workers. At the age of nine, Tang Guifen was dropped out of school due to poverty in his hometown. He worked in the Cotton Plant No. 5, No. 14 and No. 4, Yongyi No. 3 Factory, Dachang Mills and Tongxing Uniform Factory successively. In 1940, she worked as an inspector at the cloth machine of Shanghai Yuxi Yarn Yarn Factory and went to the YWCA female evening school to study. The teachers and teachers of her grade were all members of the Communist Party of China, and gave her a lot in thought, study and life Care and help, her ideological understanding and ability to be greatly improved.
