Siemens Transportation Technologies has converted Type 152 locomotives to the first high-efficiency locomotive equipped with insulated-gate bipolar transistor IGBT converters. To date, this innovative communicator has been used for light rail and express trains for technical reasons only. IGBT exchangers have the advantages of reliable performance, light weight, high efficiency, which can reduce operating costs. The high-power IGBT is rated at 4.5 kV and has a nominal current of 3 kA. The converter was first installed in the traction converter of the Locomotive 152-190-5 Locomotive. After a laboratory test, the new drive technology installed on the 152-190-5 locomotive went through extensive commissioning at the Siemens Locomotive Center in Wegberg-Wilenrath, confirming the IGBT traction
