Objectives To review some of the advances in glutamine, cancer, and its treatment, mainly on the in vivo and in vitro, animal, and human studies of glutamine and tumor growth. Some of the benefits of glutamine supplementation in radiation- and chemotherapy-bearing hosts are summarized. BACKGROUND Glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid in the body. The tumor tissue, like a “glutamine network” consumes a large amount of glutamine, which promotes the occurrence of cachexia. In vitro studies, the growth of tumor cells depends on the results of glutamine so that people do not clinically replenish glutamine in cancer patients. Methods The results of studies on the relationship between glutamine and tumor-bearing hosts receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy were summarized and summarized. Results A large number of in vivo studies have shown that glutamine supplementation will not only cause tumor growth, but will also inhibit the growth of the tumor by stimulating the body’s immune system. When receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy in the body, glutamine protects the body and increases the selectivity of chemotherapy for tumors. Conclusions Prospective, randomized studies are also needed to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of glutamine supplementation in patients receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
