本文叙述了中国人使用矿产品的先后次序,采矿坑峒、采矿方法及充填工艺的起源,和矿藏一词的由来。依据山西鹅毛口、广东西樵山二采石场遗址指出中国从新石器时代早期起就有了采矿技术。文章着重论述了早期采矿要素,并以湖北铜绿山、内蒙林西、湖南麻阳三古矿遗址为例,阐明了中国上古时代采矿在坑峒布置与支架技术、通风,及木辘轳用于矿井提升等项技术成就。
