Minimum frequency shift keying (MSK) is a very attractive modulation and demodulation method for satellite communication systems. This article describes the design, analysis, implementation, and testing of high-speed MSK modems. The typical data rate of this MSK modem at 100 MHz mid-band is 100 Mbps. It is designed with a new technology called “clock-driven carrier synchronization.” The duality of the phase is generated by the divide-by-2 circuit, and the carrier recovery circuit is obtained by a new technique, but the recovered carrier phase is subordinate to the decision time. Carrier recovery circuit with modulation method, and clock recovery circuit with FM discriminator to achieve. The experimental results show the feasibility of this high-speed MSK modem. Its performance and theory are expected to be significantly different from each other. The modem is planned to be tested by Japan’s communications satellite.
