Faulkner’s “Hustle and Fury” is one of the most famous novels in the history of American literature. It mainly uses four figures to show the different worlds in their eyes and aims to reflect the post-war American social conditions and people’s psychology. In this thesis, we use the theory of discourse world in cognitive poetics to study how the reader understands the characters in the novel through narration of each narrator, how to recognize the transformation of time and space, and how the reader splices the understanding of the four chapters in Together, the ultimate cross-cultural differences, the formation of a unified understanding of the text. Discourse world theory, based on cognitive linguistics and cognitive psychology, focuses on the reader’s reading process and provides a very useful tool for people to understand the interaction between the reader and the text in reading the novel.
