我省历年栽培辣椒亩产6,000~8,000斤,七十年代产量逐渐下降.沈阳市南塔大队1965年平均亩产6,000~7000斤,1975年亩产1,000斤,1976年仅产500斤.全省辣椒科研协作网经过三年研究试验,认为定植期的低温冷害、定植后管理不善、6~7月份高温曝晒和病毒蔓延等是造成辣椒低产的原因.如果进行前期短期覆盖,则能提高地温,保持土壤水分,使植株上下部都能生长健壮,可提高抵抗外界不良环境条件的能力.据1978年省园艺所试验,覆盖的折亩产3,55 7斤,比对照2,572斤增产38.2%,前期增产效果则更为明显.海城县荒岭子大队覆盖的折亩产9,930斤,是对照的426%;营口柳树公社东柳二队覆盖的亩产达14,346斤.
