Apparently, the “metropolis” of Don DeLillo, a postmodern American novelist, tells the story of the last day of investor Eric Parker’s journey through the international metropolis. But through the text, what the author wants to convey is not just the experience of the protagonists interacting and colliding with all kinds of machines on this day. The city under the shadow of the machinery appears to be cold and heartless, and the humans living in it are constrained and controlled both physically and mentally by all kinds of physical and non-physical machines - the catastrophic force created by machines in the metropolis. After exposing the nature of these machines, the author of the novel hinted at some liberating forces - pastoral ideals rooted in the minds of Americans and reflections in the face of death - opening the door to a revolt against machine violence.
