Memory is the central image of the contemporary American author Sylke’s novel The Dead Almanac. Continuity, politics and mobility are three characteristics of memory. This article begins with the image of memory and considers the relationship between memory, history and politics and criticizes the three hegemonist views of history prevailing in the mainstream American society: political denial, historical memory loss and historical negation. In clarifying the process of historical accumulation, it highlights the current significance of re-characterizing the history of ethnic minorities and reveals the hidden historical and cultural connotations behind the political memory of the novel.
