The Japanese Communist Party held its 22nd congress in January 2001, which is about to enter the 21st century. Marked by the congress, this 80-year-old political party is trying to make a huge difference in itself. This transformation is mainly manifested in the redefinition of the nature of the party; the “communist society” as the ultimate goal of the party is replaced by the “common society.” The “democratic reform in the capitalist framework” has become the realization of “common society ”The“ socialist revolution ”disappeared from the party constitution and further clarified the basic position on socialism. The determination of the Communist Party of Japan to begin this centuryly major shift has both the reason for its serious deterioration in its organizational capabilities, the profound changes in Japan’s social structure and the impact of the post-Cold-War world socialism.
