Objective To investigate the changes of serum CA72-4 and CA199 levels in patients with gastric cancer before and after operation and their application in the evaluation of curative effect. Methods Thirty patients with gastric cancer were enrolled in this study. Serum levels of CA72-4 and CA199 were measured by radioimmunoassay before and after operation, and 15 healthy controls were used as controls. Results The serum levels of CA72-4 and CA199 in patients with gastric cancer before surgery were significantly higher than those in healthy subjects (P <0.05). The levels of serum CA72-4 and CA199 in patients with gastric cancer after radical operation were significantly lower than those before operation (P <0.05), while the serum levels of CA72-4 and CA199 in patients undergoing palliative operation were not significantly different from those before operation (P> 0.05 ). Conclusion Serum CA72-4 and CA199 in gastric cancer patients have high level expression, which can be used to evaluate the curative effect of gastric cancer.
