淫祀盛行对汉代政治、社会经济、礼仪等方面产生极大冲击,一些有识之士和各级官吏为了维护封建统治,竭力主张移风易俗,推行教化进而禁绝淫祀。但淫祀作为一种风俗文化现象,其产生和沿袭、传播有着自身规律,加之其与社会及地方政府有着利益上的纠缠,及难以逾越的时代藩篱等因素,造成两汉禁毁淫祀行动的效果不佳,进而导致魏晋南北朝乃至隋唐以后淫祀仍然屡禁不止。
