在α放射性活度测量中,屏栅电离室是一种常用手段。屏栅电离室具有众多的优点,可用于α放射性源活度的绝对测量。屏栅电离室虽是一种经典的传统α能谱探测器,但由于它的一些优点,目前又具备了新的应用前景,在众多领域得到广泛应用。大面积、低本底α屏栅电离室可适用于核爆、模拟核爆试验中的核素分析,贫铀弹的核素分析,乏燃料后处理Pu和总α活度的测量,以及各种环境样品中对放射性核素的检测。由于屏栅电离室探测器使用的特殊性,国外也未形成产品,只是作为实验室的特殊装置研制和使用。
