Everyone is doing the opening up of the Internet. Q: When was the official proposal to launch the Internet in China? I remember it was in the late 1980s when I first returned to China in 1988, when they had talked to me about these things. At the 1989 Sino-U.S. Talks (late May and early June), halfway through the meeting, Beijing got out of trouble and the Americans rushed back to their homeland. The construction of the Internet was postponed for two full years and again in 1991. At that time, our director Zheng Zhipeng (1) told me that the Sino-U.S. Talks talked about the access to the Internet. Now they really have to do it.
