日本政府曾在日据时期的台湾设立台北帝国大学,其文政学部东洋文学讲座以中国文学为主要讲授内容,而久保天随作为首任讲座教授,开创了日据时期台北帝国大学中国俗文学教学与研究的学术传统,神田喜一郎、原田季清、稻田尹先后继之,使之得以延续和发展。由于主事的几位学者学术背景各异,台北帝国大学的中国俗文学教学与研究,既呈现各具特色的研究风格,又能保持一脉相承的学术谱系,形成了与日本本土的中国俗文学既有区别又有联系的特点。
