楚文化源远流长,直至战国时代,楚人还被中原人讥为“南蛮(?)舌之人”,如公元前四世纪的《楚辞》表现出鲜明的地方色彩。楚人尚巫敬神。《吕氏春秋·异宝》:“荆人畏鬼,而越人信禨。”楚人重视祭神鬼之道,《楚辞》有关神、灵、鬼等词语的出现频率很高。我们对《楚辞》的《离骚》、《九歌》、《天问》、《九章》等四部作品考察。“鬼”字在这四部作品里仅出现2次,包括诗歌标题“山鬼”1次。即使在全部《楚辞》中,“鬼”也只出现8次。很显然,“鬼”
