In this study, in situ hybridization and histochemical techniques were used to detect the expression of proendorphin (PPE) mRNA in rat brain after electroacupuncture with semi-quantitative observation. It shows that electroacupuncture promotes the expression of PPEmRNA in rat brain. This may be one of the mechanisms by which acupuncture has cumulative and long-term effects.
