1924年春,陈明仁考入广东陆军讲武学校,编入学生第一队。该校是广州海陆军大元帅大本营政府军政部长程潜奉孙中山大元帅之命筹建的,程潜兼任校长,军政部军需局长周贯虹(编者注:周贯虹,江西人。早年追随孙中山革命。抗战初,叛变投敌,任汪伪江西省政府主席。抗日胜利后,以汉奸罪论处。)任监督。同年9月,孙中山从广州进驻韶关,指挥北伐,程潜调任攻鄂军总司令,随队出征。一天,孙中山、廖仲恺、蒋介石来到讲武学校。孙中山宣布:“程校长须随师北伐,不能兼顾校务,今后讲武学校合并于黄埔,由蒋介石负责。”时隔不久,孙中山又任命周贯虹为赣军总司令。周想要学生一、二队提前毕业,充当他的赣军干部。讲武学校学生对此很反感,推选以陈明仁为首的12名学生代表,去找黄埔军校校长蒋介石请愿,强烈要求并入黄埔军校。
