近年来,宜昌市根据中央文明委和省委、省政府统一部署要求,坚持把深入开展创建全国文明城市工作,作为全面落实科学发展观的重大举措,牢固树立“全民创建,创建为民”的理念,持续推进创建工作,成效显著。到2010年,宜昌连续四届获得“全国创建文明城市工作先进城市”称号,2009、2010年通过了全国公共文明指数测评,为参评第三届全国文明城市奠定了良好基础。
