The application of a phenol substance honokiol extracted from the roots and stems of the oriental herb Magnolia officinalis, after treatment of prostate cancer cells for 24 h, can induce apoptosis in a time-and dose-dependent manner. Honokiol-treated cells show a sustained inhibition of the Akt signaling pathway.
