一“网师”即为渔夫之意,取名网师园就是寓意“渔隐”,而后者也确,曾一度作为园名。渔隐当是离不开水,《老子》中说:“上善若水,水善利万物而不争。”著名的园林专家陈从周先生在他的著作《说园》中将网师园归类为“静观”为主的园林代表。相对于规模较大、空间层层展开,有较长的游览线的“动观”园林,所谓“静观,就是园中予游者多驻足的观赏点”。这样的园林面积虽小却是意蕴深厚,给人以清新而含蓄的感受。
