交通消费就是在一定经济和社会条件下,人们为实现人、物、信息的空间位置转移而发生的购买、使用交通工具以及享用交通服务主体提供的位移服务的现象。城乡居民所处的交通区位不同、交通条件不同、家庭收入不同、生产与生活模式不同等原因造成了城乡居民在交通消费目的、交通工具消费、交通消费领域、交通消费时间、交通消费空间等交通消费构件上存在明显差异。对城乡居民交通消费差异及其特点进行研究有利于国民认识交通消费现象的复杂性、有利于政府制定交通建设政策和国民合理安排交通消费计划,也有利于学者研究国民交通消费规律。
